CT toddler dies after being left in a car, child’s father charged

A one-year-old died after allegedly being left in a car on Saturday afternoon and his father was arrested and charged with risk of injury to a minor, according to a statement by the East Windsor Police Department.

The East Windsor Police Department responded to 153 Rockville Road after receiving a call from the baby’s father, Kevin Pell, 47, shortly before 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to police, Pell allegedly told police the emergency dispatcher that “he had left his son alone in his vehicle and when he returned to check on him, he was blue and not breathing.”

East Windsor first responders arrived to see Pell performing CPR on his son, according to police.

First responders relieved Pell and continued first aid. The 1-year-old was transported to Connecticut Children’s Medical Canter. According to police, the toddler was pronounced dead at 3:17 p.m. on Saturday.

The Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Squad responded to the home and assisted with processing the scene. Detectives are working to obtain search warrants and conduct canvasses and interviews, according to the East Windsor Police Department.

Pell was being held in lieu of a $1 million bond after being placed under arrest and charged with risk of injury to a minor. Police said additional charges could be pending “as the investigation proceeds and will be addressed through the arrest warrant,” according to the East Windsor Police Department. The case remains under active investigation, police said.
