Police: Infant dies after being left in vehicle for hours in Madisonville
MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WEHT) – Madisonville Police are investigating the death of an infant who was found inside a vehicle Thursday afternoon.
Madisonville Police say officers were called to Multicare around 4:30 p.m. after an infant was discovered inside a vehicle in the parking lot.
According to MPD, the child’s grandmother, who is a doctor at Multicare, had picked up the infant from her daughter that morning and was supposed to take the child to daycare.
Police say the grandmother instead went to work at Multicare and forgot the infant was still in the vehicle.
The child was not discovered until later that afternoon.
Police say the infant’s father went to the daycare to pick up his child and was told the baby had never been dropped off. The father then called his wife, who contacted her mother.
Police say the grandmother ran outside and discovered the infant inside the vehicle. Responding officers attempted CPR when they arrived, but the child could not be saved.
Police have not released the infant’s age or identity. A cause of death has also not been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
