Milford, Maine – A 40-year-old Pennsylvania woman is facing manslaughter charges after her 3-year-old daughter was found deceased inside a vehicle in Milford late Saturday.

According to the Maine State Police, Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a local business the evening of Aug. 9 following a request from concerned relatives to check on the well-being of Kelly Brown and her child. Authorities said they located the child unresponsive in a vehicle registered to Brown, who was found nearby and detained.

Investigators said the pair had been the subject of an earlier attempt-to-locate notice. Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North and the department’s Evidence Response Team assisted deputies at the scene. Brown was arrested around 5 a.m. Sunday and booked into the Penobscot County Jail on a manslaughter charge.

The child was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy was conducted Monday. The Deputy Chief Medical Examiner reported the cause of death is pending further study but said symptoms were consistent with hyperthermia, or elevated body temperature, making it the most likely cause based on current findings.

Brown appeared in Penobscot Judicial Center on Monday, where her manslaughter charge was formally filed, and bail was set.

Authorities emphasized the incident is isolated and poses no ongoing public safety threat. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Larry Anderson at 207-973-3700 ext. 9, or submit tips online via the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North portal.
