Baby found dead inside car in Dayton
According to a press release from the Dayton Police Department issued on Friday,
an infant was found dead inside a parked car on Thursday in the parking lot of
Kreative Kids Learning Center in Dayton.
On Sept. 15, the Dayton Police Department received a call for service at
approximately 6 p.m. for an unresponsive child inside a vehicle. The vehicle was
located in the parking lot of Kreative Kids Learning Center located in the 200
block of Seekamp Street inside the City of Dayton.
When officers arrived they found a one-year-old male child, in the rear seat of
the vehicle still in his rear-facing child safety seat. Offices checked the
vital signs of the child, and it was determined the child had no vital signs. By
visual inspection it was obvious the child had passed away.
During the preliminary investigation it was discovered by the police
department the child’s mother, identified as Jodie Kennemer of Dayton, thought
she had dropped her child at daycare before she went to work.
Kennemer went on to Pasadena where she is employed by Pasadena ISD as a general
counsel attorney. At the end of her work day she went to Kreative Kids Learning
Center to pick up her child, where she discovered she had never dropped off the
child.
The Dayton Police Department believes the child did succumb to the heat being
during the day while inside the vehicle. Justice of the Peace Larry Wilburn was
requested to come to the scene to conduct an inquest. Judge Wilburn pronounced
the child dead and ordered an autopsy.
The Dayton Police Department is conducting a full investigation and has received
full cooperation from the family, Kreative Kids Learning Center and the Pasadena
ISD Police Department.
