Baby dies after being left for 6 hours in car at
Intel parking lot in Hillsboro, police say
A 6-month-old baby girl was left in a car at a Hillsboro business parking lot
for at least six hours Thursday before she was reported unconscious and taken to
a hospital where she later died, police say.
The infant's father called 911 about 5:05 p.m. to a lot at Intel, 2111 N.E. 25th
Ave., and reported the child was in his car and in need of medical treatment,
said Lt. Mike Rouches, a Hillsboro police spokesman. CPR was performed on the
baby, who was then taken to Tuality Community Hospital and died at the facility.
Storm Smith, a Hillsboro Fire Department spokesman, said the call involving the
child was reported as cardiac arrest.
The 38-year-old father is from Portland, works at Intel and it's not entirely
clear if the child was alone in the dad's car for the entire six hours, Rouches
said. What led to the child being left in the car and her cause of death are
still under investigation.
Detectives are interviewing the child's father and mother, Rouches said. No
arrests have been made.
