3-year-old girl dies after being found in hot car at Hopkinsville home

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WZTV) — Hopkinsville Police are investigating the death of a 3-year-old girl who was found unresponsive inside a hot car over the weekend.

Police said the incident happened at the family's home along South Virginia Street on Saturday.

The mother reportedly found noticed her daughter was missing, went looking for her and found her unresponsive in a vehicle. Right now, investigators believe the young girl got into the vehicle herself, but the investigation is ongoing.

Emergency crews transported the girl to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

No charges have been filed in this case.

“Any time there’s a loss of a child, it’s just a very tragic event no matter if it’s by natural means or by accident or by some other means,” he said.
