Coroner: 3-year-old died in Oldham County from heat exposure in minivan

A 3-year-old died earlier this month from heat exposure in an enclosed minivan in Oldham County, the Jefferson County Coroner's office said Friday.

Nishchay Patel, of Louisville, was found at the afternoon of Aug. 12 in Goshen at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir temple on South Highway 1793, according to the Oldham County police.

His death was an accident, Deputy Coroner Anthony Wight said. It was attributed to hyperthermia from the environmental heat exposure.

Emergency services took the child to Norton Children’s Hospital on Aug. 12, where he was pronounced dead at 5:10 p.m.

Oldham County police are still investigating the case and plan to send it to the Oldham County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office for review, police said Friday.
