3-year-old
dies after being left inside hot car in Gilbert
A
3-year-old girl died Tuesday after being left inside of a car for an
estimated two to three hours in Gilbert, police said.
The child
was found at around 12:09 p.m., in a neighborhood northwest of Higley
and Elliot roads,Gilbert police said.
She was given medical
treatment and taken to the hospital but later died, police said. Her
name was not released by police and further details were not made
available.
Police say the matter is under investigation and it
was too early to say whether any police action will be taken.
The
high temperature in Phoenix Tuesday was 108 degrees, according to the
National Weather Service.
Tuesday's death marked the third child
fatality in a hot car in 2019, among numerous cases nationally where
children who have died in hot cars.
Officials advise parents and
caretakers to make sure they check the back seat for children before
walking away from your car, avoiding distractions while driving and
being extra alert when there is a change in routine.
