Goochland Sheriff:
Henrico toddler dies after being left by father in hot car
The vehicle, a 2016 Acura MDS SUV, was left on the uncovered deck of a
parking garage at the Capital One campus in the West Creek Business Park,
the Goochland Sheriff's Office said.
At 12:31 p.m. on Wednesday, the
Goochland sheriff’s office received a 911 call from the child’s mother who
had been contacted at 12:20 by her son’s day care center asking her if her
son was going to be dropped off, authorities said.
The mother then
contacted the boy’s father who had left earlier that morning with the boy in
his car seat, the sheriff said. The father, who arrived at work at Capital
One at 9:30 a.m., had apparently forgotten to drop his son off at day care
and left the boy in the car, according to the sheriff's office.
Goochland Fire and Rescue, Goochland deputies and Capital One security all
responded to the scene and tried to revive the unconscious boy, who was
taken by Goochland Fire/Rescue to St. Mary's Hospital where he was
pronounced dead at 1:21 pm. The medical examiner has custody of the boy's
body for autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The boy was
identified as Riaan Gondesi.
This case is still under investigation
and no charges have been filed yet. That determination will be made by the
Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office once the investigation is complete, the
sheriff's office said.
