1 child dies, 1
still being treated after being left in hot car in West Haven
WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) - One child has died and another is being
treated in the hospital after being left in a hot car in West Haven on
Thursday afternoon.
West Haven police said a four-year-old boy was
pronounced dead while at the hospital. A two-year-old boy is still being
treated and his condition is unknown at this time.
The two were
brothers, police said.
The West Haven Fire Department said the
children were discovered in a hot car in an apartment complex parking lot at
2 Treat Street just before 3:00 p.m.
It is not known how long they
were in the car.
The investigation is centering around a black car
that was surrounded by crime scene tape on Thursday afternoon. Neighbors
said they saw a man taken out of an apartment complex in handcuffs, but that
no one is in custody at this time.
"This happens more often than it
really should," said neighbor Matt Dispirito. "Every summer we go through
this, I think. It's always on the news, don't leave kids, animals, you know?
And people still do it. I wonder how long they were left in there."
One adult was also taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
