The Orange County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of a young child who they say was left in a car for several hours in the heat on Saturday.

According to Detective Joshua Lockett, deputies responded to a location north of Vidor at about 8:00 pm. Saturday when the child was discovered unresponsive in the vehicle.

KJAS News has learned that the vehicle was at The Donut Palace, located on Farm to Market Road 105 just north of FM-1131. However, there's no word on whether the incident has any relevance to that business, other than occurring there.

Detective Lockett said the child was 4-years-old and the case remains under investigation, but no other information was released.
