Sheriff: 4-year-old’s death heat related
COVINGTON
COUNTY, AL (WSFA) -
Covington County authorities are investigating the
death of a 4-year-old girl.
Sheriff Dennis Meeks confirmed the
child’s death was heat related but didn’t release any other details.
Meeks said the child died at a residence north of Andalusia.

Scofield with the Andalusia Police Department says the four-year-old was
taken to a hospital in Andalusia.
Officials haven’t released any
other information. The investigation is ongoing.
4-year-old who died Friday ID’d
Sheriff Dennis Meeks on Tuesday identified the 4-year-old who died
Friday and said his department is still awaiting the results of an autopsy.
Meeks said the Department of Forensic Sciences has completed the autopsy
and mailed its report to the department. He expects to receive the report
today or tomorrow, he said.
The child died Friday, and initial
reports indicated her death was heat-related. Meeks identified the child as
Layla Dees.
On Monday, Andalusia Superintendent Ted Watson said the
child was a student in the system’s Pre-K class at Bright Beginnings this
past year.
